FAQs
1.How do I know it’s time to replace my boiler?
The general lifespan of a boiler is about 10 years but this can be more or less, depending on the way it’s been treated. When you notice repairs have become frequent, and parts are harder to replace, it’s good to start thinking of a new boiler. 2.Why do I need a home survey before the installation?
A home survey will allow the engineer to assess the situation, and offer the best advice on your boiler installation. During the survey the engineer will check:
- The boiler position.
- The water pressure.
- The number of radiators.
- The location of the flue.
- The number of bathrooms.
While some of this information can be supplied via phone or online, it’s always safer for a qualified engineer to attend the property, and evaluate the condition of the boiler and heating system before the day of the installation.
Rightio’s on-site survey is free and non-obligatory so you can make a responsible and informed choice without breaking the bank.
3.What type of boiler should I choose?
You can find a great variety of boilers on the market but the type you’re most likely to go for is a combi boiler. This boiler combines water heating and central heating system saving you space and money.
A system boiler requires an external tank. This tank only stores hot water, and the heating of your home is carried out by the boiler.
A standard boiler will need both hot and cold water tanks, and these days it’s only used in old properties, which have an existing storage system.
4.Does boiler brand matter?
Different boilers come with different features and price tags. You’ll need to do a little research to find out what fits in your budget, while providing you with the best quality for the price.
One of the reasons for the on-site survey is for the engineer to assess your boiler and heating system, and offer the best boilers available for the budget you’ve specified.
5.How much does a boiler installation cost?
When it comes to boiler installation prices can vary considerably, depending on where you live, the brand and the type of boiler. This is why having a free on-site boiler survey is the best way to get an accurate quote.
The cost of the boiler installation will include everything the boiler, the removal of the old one and the replacement with the new one, plus any additional charges, for accompanying work you have requested or agreed to, such as power flushing the central heating system.
Always make sure to check what’s included in your quote, and don’t be afraid to ask questions, if you find any of the pricing confusing.
6.Why should I trust a Rightio engineer?
All Rightio engineers are Gas Sage registered, and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience before joining the company. This guarantees we only hire the real professionals, who can provide a high-quality, risk-free service.
7.What will happen on the day of the installation?
On the day of the installation our trusted Rightio engineers will arrive at the agreed time, carrying all the necessary tools and parts to complete the installation. You will need to be at the property to let them in.
Our engineers will lay down dust sheets, get the tools out and start working. Boiler installations can take from several hours to a whole day, and you don’t need to be present at all times, although we strongly encourage you to do so. Our engineers will be able to guide you through the work they’re doing, allowing you to gain better understanding of the quality of their workmanship, and some useful knowledge about your boiler and heating system.
Finally the engineer will test the boiler, to make sure it’s safe and working properly. They will then show you how to use the boiler and controls, and ensure you can operate it safely.
You can then sign the job sheet, make a cuppa, and that’s it. Your new boiler is ready for work.
8.What about my warranty?
All our boilers come with a pre-agreed warranty. To keep your boiler warranty valid you’ll have to service your boiler each year. You can book your annual service with Rightio on the spot, just after you’ve had your boiler installed. We’ll log it into our system, and get back in touch with you when near the time your boiler service is due.
9.What exactly is a combi boiler?
The combi boiler is undoubtedly the most popular boiler in the UK. This type of boiler controls the whole heating system from one single unit.
The main benefit of the combi boiler is its compact size and flexible outputs. The combi boiler will give you instant access to hot water at all times, as you don’t have to be waiting on a hot water tank to warm up the water.
Best of all, combi boilers are energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly.
10.How to bleed radiators with a combi boiler?
You will notice your radiators need bleeding when air gets trapped inside, and certain parts of the radiator stop heating properly.
